Criteria for Admission to the Discussion of the Doctoral Thesis

For all PhD students:

A doctoral student who is completing his/her third year of doctoral studies in the current calendar year is admitted by the teaching board to the discussion of the thesis, according to the defined timetable, if:
 

  1. he/she has completed the required educational activities stipulated during the accreditation of the corresponding doctoral cycle (37 cycle in 2024). These learning requirements may be expressed both in terms of credits acquired and participation in the minimum number of courses required, with relative examinations taken, and in the other activities specified in the accreditation form;
  2. he/she has produced at least two research products uploaded onto IRIS during the entire PhD programme, which clearly refer to the themes and methodologies of the PhD programme, or has submitted articles to journals for publication or presented papers at scientific conferences whose abstracts have been published;
  3. he/she has carried out at least one of the research products uploaded onto IRIS in collaboration with researchers from the research organisation, if the period of research abroad was envisaged in the call for applications, or has been produced individually as part of research carried out at that organisation (provided that this circumstance is clearly identified or identifiable).
     

For doctoral students with grants co-funded by the MUR (PON, PNRR calls):

A doctoral student who in the current calendar year is completing his/her third year of doctoral studies, is admitted by the teaching board to the discussion of the thesis, according to the defined timetable, if, in addition to passing the aforementioned points 1), 2), 3) for all students:
 

  • the research activity carried out and uploaded on the MUR website is consistent with that indicated in the announcement and approved by the MUR;
  • the activity carried out at a company or institution is consistent with the activity declared on the MUR website;
  • it has produced at least one of the research products uploaded on IRIS in which the activity carried out during the period spent at the funding company or organisation is highlighted.
     

For doctoral students with industrial grants (including regional grants):

A doctoral student who is completing his or her third year of doctoral studies in the current calendar year is admitted by the teaching board to the discussion of the thesis, according to the defined timetable, if, in addition to passing the aforementioned points 1), 2), 3) for all students:

  • he/she has produced at least one of the research products uploaded onto IRIS in which the activity carried out at the company or funding body is highlighted.

 

For doctoral students with department-funded or co-funded scholarships:

A doctoral student who is completing his or her third year of doctoral studies in the current calendar year is admitted by the teaching board to the discussion of the thesis, according to the defined timetable, if, in addition to passing the aforementioned points 1), 2), 3) for all students:
 

  • he/she has produced at least one of the research products uploaded onto IRIS in which the activity carried out during the period spent at the company or funding body is highlighted.
